Rebates

All of our clinicians are fully registered with the Australian Health Professional Registration Agency (AHPRA) are registered with Medicare and various private health insurance companies in order to allow clients access to rebates for services.

There are a number of Australian Government initiatives under which psychologists are eligible to provide services under Medicare.   Medicare benefits are available for a range of specified psychology services for individuals with certain conditions, and to receive psychological services under Medicare, a person must be referred by his/her GP or in some instances by a psychiatrist or a pediatrician.

A broad outline is provided below, however, for more details click here.

Medicare Rebates for Therapy

You do not require a referral from a treating Doctor to access services at Deakin Psychology.  However, to receive a rebate through Medicare for therapy, you must have a Mental Health Care Plan or a Primary Enhanced Care Plan from your GP or Pediatrician. Rebates vary but generally you may receive up to $124.50 per session depending on the presenting issue and the specific qualifications of the psychologist. The referral must state that you or our child is referred for psychological support under one of these care plans and a care plan has to be attached.  Please ensure your GP or Pediatrician gives you a copy of the full care plan as you will be required to present it at the first appointment in order to receive the rebate.

With a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you may access a rebate for up to 10 individual counselling sessions per calendar year.  Your Psychologist will provide a progress report to your referring Doctor during your treatment and you will need to see them for a review of the plan before the final session.  Under some circumstances you may be eligible for 16 sessions per calendar year and the Mental Health Treatment Plan also allows you to access rebates for up to 10 group sessions per calendar year. Private Health Care Rebates

Your Health Insurer might provide a rebate for psychological services; however, this depends on your health fund and your level of cover. You will need to contact your provider to find out what mental health services your health insurance policy covers and how much you might be able to claim for specific services.

If you have any questions about the mental health coverage your plan provides, please call your Private Health Insurance Company directly.
